My Dream

Posted on Sep 22nd, 2006 by David : stumbling towards enlightenment David

It's been a while since I had a dream that I had the courage to tell anyone about. I have had a desire to do something for people suffering emotional / psychological pain every since I was in High School and watched the way my mother was treated in the psychiatric clinic when she attempted to take her life through an overdose.

It was also at that time that I was introduced to the idea of holistic medicine. That is a medicine that believed that the person, spirit soul and body should be treated as a whole. One part affects the others.

Since High School I thought about that desire in many different incarnations. I took classes in Nouthetic Counseling (and other kinds of biblical counseling), worked with troubled kids, learned Adventure Based Counseling, took seminars with Boys Town in dealing with violent youth, social skills training, etc, read tons of books and did a lot of pastoral counseling. In Seminary I thought of continuing education in counseling. While I was a Youth Pastor, I dreamed about a "Family Resource Center."

So it's been a long time desire of mine as you can see. Life just keeps getting in the way or maybe leading me in unexpected ways. Well, I finally put together a strategy for the next five years. Please pray that it works out.

The ultimate goal is to open a center for alternative treatment of depression, anxiety, ADD/ADHD and chronic pain. There, we will use martial arts, yoga, meditation/mindfulness, breathwork, counseling (spriritual, behavioral, congnitive) nutrition, support groups, parenting classes, and bodywork to help people heal their minds, moods, bodies and lifestyles.

My five year plan kind of goes like this.

Finish this year strong in sales. God willing make enough in my annual bonus to pay for my tuition and rent for massage therapy school.

Finish school and get licensed and certified in Massage Therapy. Get certified in Neuromuscular Therapy.

Get a job doing medical massage and enroll in the New York Open Center's program in Somatic Psychology. That should take about two years to finish.

Find a location that I can either buy or lease. Open the center. Of couse the idea is to be doing little parts of the program all along as I am given oportunity.

That's it. I think it would be a blessing to those in need and a wonderful way to live my life. What a great job to get to wake up and go to every day!

I hope it works.

The Kiss

The gentle touch
of lovers' lips
and kindred souls
Mingled in a moment
unbound by time and space.
Both free falling
in a surrealistic flight
on fragrant winds
of Ecstasy.

beauty

True beauty appears
it forms like dew on unsuspecting hearts
or rises and falls within like mystic tides
controlled not by the pull of moons
but from the waxing and waning of desire.
